Moreton House is a grade-II listed Georgian country house on the outskirts of Bideford. Part of Grenville College boarding school for more than 50 years, it has recently been taken back into private ownership and the northern wing restored and refurbished into a number of luxurious self-catering holiday apartments.
The apartments are built around the old kitchens, bakery, scullery and servants’ hall, although Grenville alumni may know the areas as Romney showers, dining hall and matron’s rooms. With period features, yet also modern conveniences, the apartments are well equipped, and full of home comforts and more, with wood burning stoves, roll-top baths and smart TVs. The ground floor apartments are ideal for those with limited mobility. Concierge services and local produce delivery available. Well-behaved pets welcome.
There are 5 acres of private gardens, with lots to explore – a secret garden, fire pit, mud kitchen, story chair, carved animals, gazebo, BBQ areas and a kitchen garden in the making. Indoors there are a growing number of amenity rooms under development - cosy fireside snugs, children’s play areas and a club room. Also coming soon will be function rooms, including a ballroom, for small private events.
Easy access to the A39, and minutes from the centre of Bideford - a perfect spot to visit local attractions such as Westward Ho!, Appledore, the Tarka trail, Clovelly and all the stunning coast and countryside of North Devon. Newly renovated apartments available from Easter, with additional apartments and amenities following soon.
