Using the old course of the rail line, the Tarka Trail is a popular track for people of all ages. Popular with leisure enthusiasts, the track is walked, ran and even cycled on! Not brought your bike with you? Bideford Cycle Hire is conveniently situated close to the Tarka Trail.
Your journey begins at the Bideford Railyway Heritage Centre where visitors learn the history of the railway in Bideford, stop for refereshments at the Tea on the Train or visit the Visitor Centre which explains what there is to see along the Tarka Trail.
- Heading north from Bideford the track provides views across the the River Torridge of Bideford and the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. Along the route you will visit the villages of Instow and Fremington, leading onto the market town of Barnstaple.
- South will take you to the village of Weare Gifford and then onto the historic town of Torrington, famous for the battle of Torrington in 1646.
