On your doorstep

Westward Ho!

Boasting the only Blue Flag beach in North Devon, Westward Ho! is an unspoilt, coastal holiday resort situated only 3 miles from the town of Bideford. It has a variety of quality accomodation and delicious places to eat.

Much like Bideford the village also has a historic background, being the only town in the UK with an exclamation mark in its name after taking its name from the Charles Kingsley book of the same name.

Appledore

The historic seaside village has stunning views of the estuary, looking out to scenic village of Instow. The village is renowned for its ship building history which has even seen royalty arrive for its more historic launches. The Golden Hinde replica was built here in Appledore using the same techniques adopted by the shipbuilders of the original Sir Francis Drakes galleon.

A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, its mazed streets are a treasure trove of hidden gems. The quay area is home to many restaurants and bars where many people have reported spotting porpoises and even otters while enjoying their home cooked food.

Instow

Accessible road, Tarka Trail or the ever popular Appledore Ferry, the small town of Instow offers a large stretch of golden sand to build sand castles, exercises a troublesome Spaniel or simply read a book and let the day go by. Along the front there's a great selection of bars and restaurants providing views over to the picturesque village of Appledore.

Torrington

A market town steeped in history, most infamous amongst historians for the Battle of Torrington in 1646, a violent battle which saw the Parliamentarians oust the Royalists from the West Country. The towns location provides breathtaking views of the Torridge valley and the town itself can easily be accessed by car or along the Tarka Trail by foot or cycle.
